I am an amateur radio operator in the northern community of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada and was first licensed in 2017 using the call sign VE6SVN. In 2019, I successfully obtained my Advanced Amateur Radio Certificate. If you don't know much about Fort McMurray, it is located in the Northwest part of Alberta just south of the Wood Buffalo National Park. This is Canada's largest National Park which is home to the largest herd of free roaming Wood Bison (approx. 5,000) and the longest Beaver Dam in the world measuring 2,790 feet long. Long enough to be seen from NASA satellite imagery in 1990! Fort McMurray is also very blessed to have some of Canada's most spectacular Northern Lights shows. Watching these lights dance across the skies is phenomenal! Up here we have some of the most amazing people, experiences, and stories. If you would like to check one out, just click on the the picture above to read about one of Canada's biggest evacuations...88,000 people and one highway out.
When it comes to amateur radio, I like to dabble in a bit of everything whether it be APRS, Satellites, Repeaters, System Fusion, IRLP, HF DX, VHF/UHF, Digi Modes, Weather, and a little bit of contesting when time allows. The links page will be provide links to some helpful resources that I wish I had found long before I actually did.
